This Thursday, BLSA, OUTLaw and the AÉCLSS, will be virtually welcoming Desmond Cole and Reakash Walters to our campus via zoom.
Reakash Walters is a writer, community advocate and legal articling student; she was recently spotlighted for being one of 33 Black Canadians making change now by the Chatelaine.
Desmond Cole is an award-winning columnist, activist and author. Desmond Cole penned the national best-seller “The Skin we’re in, a Year of Black Resistance and Power.”
This conversation is a response to anti-Blackness, anti-Queerness, and the intersections between these two forms of violence. It is a response to the question we all seem to be asking ourselves in this time of urgent activism and resistance: “what can we do to combat racism, homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in our communities? What is abolition and why is it the current battle cry? How do we and can we show up as allies of the Black community?" We are privileged to welcome both Desmond Cole and Reakash Walters to share their knowledge on this question and variations of it.
The event will be held in English with French closed captions.
